Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE Seeks Funding for the Ryan Michael Smith Endowed Golf Scholarship at UNLV

Las Vegas, NEV (July 18, 2024) --- The Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, a vehicle for the private sector to contribute to and advance critical initiatives that enhance quality of life for Las Vegas residents, announces it is assisting in fundraising to support the Ryan Michael Smith Endowed Golf Scholarship at UNLV to be awarded to a student-athlete on the UNLV men’s golf team. Smith, a highly regarded leader at the City Las Vegas, was the Director of Economic and Urban Development at the City of Las Vegas before he passed away on March 17, 2024.

According to City of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Smith worked on a number of projects and developments that have had a transformative effect across the city, including many in the Arts District, Symphony Park, and the Historic Westside.

“Ryan was well respected and beloved by all he worked with, and as an avid golfer, this scholarship is a wonderful way to keep his memory and his passion for golf alive,” said Mayor Goodman. “We invite everyone who knew him, including those from our local development and golf communities, to honor him by contributing to this memorial scholarship.”

Smith, who joined the city in 2018, became the director of its economic and urban development department in 2021 during a key development period that included the COVID-19 pandemic and the city’s recovery.
