Touro University Nevada celebrates next generation of physicians and health professionals with White Coat Ceremonies

LAS VEGAS, NEV. (September 9, 2024) – On September 8, 2024, Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine and Health and Human Services (Touro College of Medicine) hosted two dedicated White Coat Ceremonies for nearly 180 medical students from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and

for nearly 140 students from the Physician Assistant Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Nursing programs of the College of Health and Human Services.

Each medical student from the College of Osteopathic Medicine also received their own wireless pocket-sized ultrasound device, thanks to a partnership between Touro College of Medicine and Vave Health, a maker of innovative handheld ultrasound technology. The Class of 2028 is the fifth Touro University Nevada medical school class to receive the handheld ultrasound device.

The ultrasound wand introduces students to the necessary tools for point-of-care-ultrasound and enables them to receive hands-on training in diverse settings. Touro was the first medical school in the country to collaborate with Vave on customizing product software for teaching and learning purposes. The partnership, created in 2021, also provides Touro’s students with the world’s first ultrasound-driven medical curriculum focusing on augmenting the foundational sciences, enhancing test preparation, and developing clinical skills to lay the foundation for future clinicians.

White coat ceremonies are held at medical and health sciences colleges and universities throughout the world and represent a rite of passage for students that symbolizes the journey and their next steps toward a professional healthcare career.

Touro University Nevada’s College of Osteopathic Medicine boasts some of the highest board scores and match/placement rates in the nation, including a successful 100% percent match/placement rate for the Class of 2024, with more than one-third of Touro graduates remaining in Nevada for their residencies, helping to meet the local and growing demand for physicians.

Students from the College of Health and Human Services go on to fill critical and important healthcare voids by working in community health, child advocacy, nursing, nutrition, social work, behavioral therapy, and gerontology, among others.
