Touro University Nevada’s Clinical Simulation Center Becomes the First in Nevada to Achieve Full Accreditation

LAS VEGAS, NEV. (Dec. 9, 2024) --- Touro University Nevada’s Michael Tang Regional Center for Clinical Simulation has been granted full accreditation by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare’s (SSH) Board of Review, making it the first simulation center in Nevada to receive this distinction. In 2022, Touro Nevada’s simulation center received provisional accreditation, and its achievement of full accreditation now underscores the center's standard of excellence, ongoing commitment to improving quality of care, and track record of superior outcomes.

“Getting this accreditation only reinforces the commitment we have to providing the highest quality learning experience possible that prepares our learners to be better practitioners in the field,” said Casey Maurice, Director of The Simulation Center. “As with any skill or experience, it is best to practice and prepare in advance, and our center provides learners with a safe space to do so.”

Touro Nevada’s simulation center is a comprehensive learning environment that supports the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Health and Human Services, providing students across healthcare programs with hands-on experience, the opportunity to practice teamwork, and the chance to encounter various stages of medical procedures or situations. The center not only teaches technical tools, but also works on humanistic skills, professionalism, and other essential soft skills required for effective diagnosis and patient care. Not exclusive to enrolled students, the center also collaborates with community partners and hospitals to provide specialized training that enhances skill sets, reinforces procedural steps, and fosters effective collaboration with other first responder teams.

“We are joining the top third of simulation centers in the United States accredited at this level,” added Maurice.

“By having the best tools and capabilities means we are able to graduate the most prepared medical professionals.”

The high-fidelity manikins, task trainers, virtual reality, AI, and patient actors all come together to provide a robust learning environment in a 18,000 square foot facility.
